Marty Winkel received the third Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021. A member since the early 1980s, Marty served on the SCR Board for more than 30 years, including seven as President, and shaped many of the club’s signature programs.

He created both the Golden Shoe Award and the Hall of Fame, and helped launch the Lifetime Achievement Award itself in 2014. Marty is also a remarkable athlete: the first SCR member to complete marathons in all 50 states, celebrated at the “Marty Gras” Marathon in 2005. With a marathon PR of 3:01 and multiple Boston finishes, he has personally run over 700 races and directed more than 100.

Marty’s decades of leadership, innovation, and enthusiasm built a strong foundation for SCR’s future. His legacy is one of tireless service, athletic achievement, and a passion for recognizing others—a true lifetime contribution to the running community.
